Have you seen the “First Time” ad that compares a vote for Obama with losing virginity? It’s an attention getter for sure, but a positive one? I hope not!
Our nation is in a moral free fall that is accelerating as we’ve cast aside the biblical principles that were our foundation. We’re like that frog in the kettle of water that has adjusted to the increased temperature and now is close to boiling to death.
In our complacency we’ve adjusted to calling abortion “women’s health care” (including allowing babies born alive in late-term abortions to die). Same-sex marriage, clearly condemned in the Bible, is now acceptable and, in a growing number of states, legal. Religious freedom is in danger of being lost. The national debt continues to spiral out of control and threatens to destroy our nation.
And then there are all the questions concerning Benghazi where our ambassador and three other Americans were killed. “Stand down” CIA operatives were told when help was requested more than once. In today’s “real-time” world, how could the White House not been aware of what was happening?
I cannot be complacent or silent even though I know I risk losing friends. I did not vote for Obama four years ago and will not vote for him now. Yes, I know Mitt Romney is a Mormon, but we are electing a president not a high priest. He and Paul Ryan support the biblical values that I believe are critical if America is to survive.
Father, please help Your people to carefully and prayerfully examine the issues before they enter the voting booth. And please give us the courage of our convictions to say and write what we believe You are calling us to say and write before it’s too late.
Marlene, I recently posted a blog titled, “Refusing to Back Down: What it Really Means to Speak the Truth in Love” which said essentially the same as yours. I didn’t lose friends, per say, but definitely offended some people. I agree with you. We need to speak up, especially with our votes!
Hi Rebecca – We were away for the weekend to celebrate my husband’s 70th birthday. I had no Internet access and just now found your blog online. I so agree with what you wrote in “Refusing to Back Down.” With your permission, I’d love to post it on my blog. It’s very well written and well thought through.
Thank you Marlene . . . you are always kind and brilliant and right on! How sad the world is if we must fear the loss of “friends” by telling the truth . . .
I don’t think I’m brilliant, Jo. There’s so much I don’t understand, but I can’t remain silent about the issues that concern me. Rebecca Aarup said it much better in her blog, http://rebeccaaarup.com/2012/10/17/refusing-to-back-down-what-it-really-means-to-speak-the-truth-in-love/
PS: I just watched the “First Time” ad . . . O SO TERRIFYING that anyone would think this way . . . O SO SAD . . . May God have mercy on us all!
Yes, Father, have mercy. Have you also seen the ad of school children singing?
Praise God for your boldness and awareness . . . God has used your ministry to speak His truth and help others do the same. Grateful for your example and encouragement.
Thanks much, Verna, for your encouraging words.
Hi Marlene. I have no clue about the ‘first time’ ad you are talking about, but I’ve been an undecided voter for several days. I think in my heart I’ve always planned to vote Republican because of the very issues you brought up.
The only thing that bothers me about Mitt Romney is that he would actually say that the need for smaller classrooms is a ploy by the Teacher’s Union to hire more teachers. Huh? I don’t believe that and that remark really bothered me. However, the policies of the Obama administration bother me a lot more, so I guess I’ve pretty much answered the question as to how I’m going to vote.
I think what is more shameful on the part of both parties is the amount of money they have spent on this campaign. The figures are astronoomical and totally ridiculous. I’d also give a lot to see a candidate run for office who can do so by standing on his own merits instead of bashing the other guy!
That’s my .02 anyway! I do pray that each and every voter will truly search their heart when they place their votes!
Amen, Marlene, I agree with you completely. We as a people have strayed. May there be a revival of hearts, and a turning back to the Lord. May His will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Hi Patti – Here’s a link to the First Time Ad. It definitely does not dignify the office of the president of the United Sates. http://earlystart.blogs.cnn.com/2012/10/26/obama-campaign-ad-with-actress-lena-dunham-compares-voting-to-losing-virginity/?iref=allsearch
As for the comment about smaller classrooms, here’s another link. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/22/romney-obama-spar-over-ed_n_2003999.html?utm_hp_ref=elections-2012
I agree that the spending on ads is ridiculous and out of control. With our economy a mess and so many out of work and losing their home, the money could so much better be spent. I’d love to see Congress pass a law that eliminates all ads and makes debates and town halls the focus.
The Word of God says: Judge not lest ye be judged; Love the sinner not the sin; helped the oppressed, the poor, the widows. Do not be the oppressor with your wealth, your law. God is the judge of same sex marriages, women who choose abortions, not man. God is merciful and compassionate. God will judge Obama on that day. I’m sure that if we reached out to those who lived broken lives with the compassion of Jesus, real compassion not judgment and hypocrisy, people would thirst for the Word of God, run after him. As a follower of Christ, God is in control, not either man who becomes president. For I fear no man with Christ as my king.
This article could just as easily have been titled “The Danger of Not Speaking Up.” Complacency is expressed through silence in the face of moral erosion. We’ll realize that once we face the fact that keeping our mouths shut is, in fact, speaking. Silence speaks volumes. My mother always said that when people become mentally ill or mentally deranged, their minds wash out into numbers and sex. That’s our society today–we’re focused on two things, as is apparent in our society, our media, and even in our politics. We’re living in the “culture of death.”
“Complacency is expressed through silence in the face of moral erosion. We’ll realize that once we face the fact that keeping our mouths shut is, in fact, speaking.” How very, very true. Thanks for sharing.
Marlene, While I may not be in agreement some of Obama’s ideas I am not in agreement with Romney’s either. I have issues with Mr. Romney’s Mormonism, while many people do not. If one thinks the Biblical principles of Mormonism is acceptable they are only fooling themselves. This election to me is like “six in one hand and half a dozen in the other” . I pray that the Lord will enable me to make the right decision.
I do not agree with the Mormon faith, but we’re voting for a president – not a pastor. I’m thankful for the stand Mitt Romney has on the issues Ibelieve matter the most – the right to life and sanctity of marriage. As the “Test of Fire” video proclaims, they are not negotiable. I grieve for how deeply our nation is divided. Father, please heal our land.
That First Time ad was just disgusting. And it came from their campaign. Shameful.
It shocked me. It surely could not have raised the world’s opinion of our nation.
