I love finding bargains! In fact, it is rare for me to purchase anything unless it’s on sale. Even better is finding it on clearance at 50% or more off. So you can imagine my delight when I discovered a beautiful crèche in the clearance section. The carved figures of Mary and Joseph and the angel were exquisite. But wait! Something, no Someone, was missing. There was no baby Jesus!
I thought of the efforts of the “politically correct” to take Christ out of Christmas and how much has changed since I was a little girl. Christmas without Christ was unimaginable. He was indeed the “reason for the season.”
This December I went on a Caribbean cruise with my daughter, son-in-law, and three grandchildren age 18 months, four years, and five years old. I was a needed third pair of eyes to watch the little ones. Except for a few decorations, there was no evidence of Christmas onboard. There were no Christmas carols, no mention of Christ in the shows we attended. There was, of course, much eating and drinking, gambling and partying. How empty it all seemed, and how I longed for fellowship with other Christians.
I’m reminded of Jesus’ words, of how He said the world will be at ease, drinking and partying, before His unexpected return (Lk. 17:26-30; Matt. 24:48-49). I’m also reminded of His challenge to be a “wise and faithful servant. . . . Have I given you the task of managing my household, to feed my children day by day? Blessings on you if I return and find you faithfully doing your work” (Matt. 24:45-46 TLB).
Father, as a new year approaches, ignite in me and in every believer a renewed passion to be Your light in the growing darkness. Give us a holy boldness to be Your representative and to share Your truth. Most of all show us how to truly love others so that they will see Jesus in us and be drawn not just to the Babe in the manger but also to the Savior who willingly went to the cross to save us from our sins. How I thank and praise You for this greatest of all gifts!
Praise the Lord for He is worthy to be praised…..2010 has dawned and we are well into this new century….Our Lord is speaking to His children as well as the whole world…. Earthquakes and adverse weather conditions etc…… His word states in 2 Chronicles 7:14 if My people who are called by My name will
humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Let us continue to pray for Haiti and the nation….and the peace of Jerusalem.
We need to pray for Haiti in a spiritual sense. Many cults are there to ‘help out’. Donna
Thank you for this website and god bless!
Indeed, at this point well into the new year, and in to a new adventure with the Lord. I was following links within “writeHisanswer” and found the blog. I am not a blogger per se… but hope to find people with whom to share a love for the Lord, and for “writing (as so well put…)…His answer.”
There are indeed many earthquakes, volcanoes, and the absence of Jesus in so many realms of our lives, and it is becoming increasingly so. From no prayer in schools, to a president who will honor muslim holidays, but remove any “Christian references” from anything he has the opportunity to do so. The children our being taught about Santa, Easter bunny and tooth fairy, etc right along with Jesus in our churches. As they get older, they find out the truth about Santa, easter bunny and tooth fairy, and somewhere in their little minds… Jesus now seems like just another fairy tale to find out doesn’t exist somewhere down the line… and our society lends itself to feeding that idea.
I want to teach those little ones how to have a real relationship with Jesus, and to know Him in a real way… on their level… so when they find out the truth about the ‘fairy tales’ … it will not shake the faith they have in Jesus. With fewer and fewer children being raised in church, and the ones who are not getting as much of the teaching about Jesus as we used to “in the olden days,” it seems a good way to counteract the endoctrination they get when they enter school these days… or watch television… that is the goal for my children’s stories… that is how I want to “writeHisanswer.” Thanks for listening.
Hi Marlene – Publishers have expressed interest in TRAIN UP A CHILD but between moving last year and directing the two conferences, the book has been on the back burner. I KNOW it’s something Father is calling me to do and I’m trusting He will help me to get it done.
