I received an exciting email from Ted Baehr who is keynoting and teaching a continuing session on “Breakthrough Scriptwriting” at the July 31 – August 3 Greater Philly Christian Writers Conference.

“Be a part of making Christ’s Voice heard in Hollywood,” Ted writes.”You can change the culture by changing the channel to Hallmark Movie Channel March 6th at 7 pm EST [for the 21st Annual MovieGuide Awards]. . . . We need to show Hollywood that the Christian voice matters, so that they make more faith and family friendly programing.”

Please help not just by tuning in but by spreading the word in church tomorrow and on Facebook, Twitter . . .

Speaking of television, in case you haven’t heard, tomorrow night (Sunday, March 3), THE BIBLE, an epic 5-week, 10-hour mini-series, will premiere on the History Channel (8 pm EST). The final episode will air on Easter Sunday and will feature the death and resurrection of Jesus. To help insure accuracy, many Christian scholars served as advisors and hundreds of Christian leaders have given their endorsement. Again, it’s critically important that we spread the word, tune to the History Channel, send a thank you to the channel (and sponsors), and most of all PRAY.

More news – my good friend Dan Wooding who keynoted at the 2011 GPCWC and the 2012 Colorado Christian Writers Conference emailed that he is “very close to receiving a matching grant from a Christian foundation that said they would give ASSIST a grant of $5,000 to be used to help us continue with our media ministry, if we can raise enough funds to match this figure. This means that a gift of any amount, large or small, that is given will be doubled in value, which would be a wonderful help for us with our funds still extremely low at this time. . . . This is a wonderful way to assist ASSIST, which, by the way, stands for Aid to Special Saints in Strategic Times.”

I believe ASSIST News provides a critically important ministry by keeping subscribers informed (there is no charge) of the needs of our brothers and sisters around the world who are refusing to deny their faith in Christ despite persecution. To use ASSIST’s secure site to designate your gift for “Where Needed Most”, please go to http://www.assistnews.net/assist/donations.htm. Or you can mail a check with “Matching Grant” in the memo field to ASSIST, PO Box 609, Lake Forest, CA 92609, USA. Gifts are tax-deductible. Please pray about helping.

“You are the world’s light – a city on a hill, glowing in the night for all to see.”
Matthew 5:14 TLB

Dr. Ted Baehr, founder and chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission®, is letting his light shine in Hollywood. This Friday, February 24, Hallmark will telecast Movieguide®’s 20th Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, 7 p.m. Central Time, and 5 p.m. Pacific Time. Movieguide® is a family guide to movies and entertainment founded by Ted. Movieguide® (www.movieguide.org), and its sister organization, the Christian Film & Television Commission® (CFTVC), is an international non-profit ministry dedicated to “redeeming the values of the entertainment industry by influencing industry executives and by informing and equipping the public about the influence of the entertainment media.”

The awards will honor the Best Movies for Families and Best Movies for Mature Audiences. They also include the Faith & Freedom Awards for Promoting Positive American Values, the Grace Awards for Most Inspiring Performances in Movies and TV, and the $100,000 Epiphany Prizes for Most Inspiring Movie and TV Program of 2011.

Ted keynoted at last year’s Greater Philly Christian Writers Conference on “Transforming Our Culture” and taught a continuing session on “Breakthrough Scriptwriting.” He will do the same at this year’s May 16-19 Colorado Christian Writers Conference. You’ll learn how to write a script that is structurally sound, entertaining, morally responsible and very marketable.

Dan Wooding, founder and chief editor of ASSIST News Service (www.assistnews.net), received the fourth annual “Passion for the Persecuted” plaque from Open Doors USA at the NRB (National Religious Broadcasters) on February 20. Jerry Drystra, Media Relations Director for Open Doors USA, said, “It is a pleasure to give Dan and ASSIST this award. His passionate, professional documenting of persecution around the globe has influenced thousands to pray and support suffering Christians. I just returned from Egypt. The Christians there told me it is important to join them in prayer for their country and to get their story out during the revolution taking place there. And getting the news to Christians in the West is exactly what ASSIST has been doing for more than 20 years.”

In accepting the award, Dan told the media professionals gathered for the presentation that it was Brother Andrew, the founder of Open Doors, who had first given him the “bug” to spend the rest of his life helping persecuted Christians. “It has been my privilege to have worked alongside Open Doors now for many years and I am honored to be able to receive this award on behalf of my wonderful team of writers from around the world, many of whom literally risk their lives to bring their stories to us.”

Dan’s GPCWC keynoteat last year’s GPCWC focused on “Persecuted Christians.” He also taught a workshop on “How to Become a First-Class Journalist.” He will do the same this year at the May 16-19 Colorado Christian Writers Conference. You may subscribe free of charge to ASSIST News. I urge you to do so today.

Ted and Dan are both letting their light shine. If you did not hear them at last year’s GPCWC and are unable to come to Colorado in May, an order form for CDs is online at  www.writehisanswer.com/Philadelphia. I haven’t yet begun updating the GPCWC website with information on this year’s August 1-4 conference except for a partial list of faculty. I hope to have the website updated and the brochure at the printer early April. The website for the May 16-19 Colorado Christian Writers Conference is in transition from FrontPage to Expression Web.

God bless you and your writing. May He help us all to “Shine out . . . like beacon lights, holding out . . . the Word of Life” (Philippians 2:15-16 TLB).

I know you are busy with Christmas just a few days away, but the news from North Korea compels me to write you.

As you may know, my heart is burdened for our brothers and sisters around the world who are persecuted for their faith and especially for the children who see things children should never see.

Please take a momen  to visit my website (www.writehisanswer.com) and read faculty member C. Hope Flinchbaugh’s article, “Why Are the North Koreans Crying?” I also urge you to read the press release from International Christian Concern, “South Korean Church Leader: ‘Pray that the Sacrifices of Christians over the Past 65 Years Will Finally Bear Fruit.'”

Most of all I urge you to pray – and not just for North Korea but for Christians everywhere who are threatened, harassed, persecuted, beaten, and even killed for their faith in Jesus whose birth we are about to celebrate.

And let’s not forget to pray for our nation. Every year the effort to dim the Light of Christmas grows stronger. I cling to the promise:

His life is the light that shines through the darkness –
and the darkness can never extinguish it.  1 John 1:5 TLB

I also am reminded that you and I are called to be His lightbearers – to speak and write His answer and most of all to live it.

Because He came and is coming again – Marlene

Beyond the opportunity to learn from an outstanding faculty of over 65 editors, agents, and authors and to meet with them one-on-one, the August 10-13 Greater Philly Christian Writers Conference will be addressing today’s critical issues in our new Seminars for Concerned Christians.

Thursday, 1:00 – 4:30, “Who Is My Neighbor?” Along with Michele Clark, professor at George Washington University and board member of Christian Solidarity Int’l, and Geraldine Ryerson-Cruz, Sr. Researcher and Policy Analyst for World Vision US, Steven Lawson, Senior Editor at Regal Publishing Group, will focus on human trafficking, orphans, abortion, the poor, racism, the learning impaired, the handicapped, the hungry, the oppressed and so much more that is close to the heart and call of Jesus.  Michele & Geraldine’s bios are at www.writehisanswer.com/Philadelphia/2011_agents_&_other.htm.

Friday, 1:00 – 4:30, “Help Save Our Nation!” Never before have I heard so many Christians that I deeply respect warning about the demise of our nation. What Rick Marschall, author, historian, and seminar leader, says is true. We are living “during a time of unprecedented moral decay and decline in biblical standards.” The question he asks can’t be ignored. “Will we defend America’s cultural heritage or be ineffective in fighting for a spiritual revival?”

Saturday, 10:30 – noon, seminar on Persecuted Christians. We’ve heard the statistics and some of the stories,  but what can we do? Dan Wooding, founder and chief editor of ASSIST News Service (Aid to Special Saints In Strategic Times), will interview C. Hope Flinchbaugh, CEO of History Maker Publishing, for his FrontPage Radio show that is heard via the Internet in some 200 nations. Hope has an exciting vision to get copies of History Maker’s first title, Out of North Korea: A Korean Boy Tells His Rescue Story in Pictures, into the hands of legislators in Washington, D.C.

I know these aren’t the topics you’d normally expect to be addressed at a writer’s conference, but then the days we’re living in are no longer normal. For such a time as this I believe God is calling an army of Christians to “write His answer.”

For more information go to www.writehisanswer.com/Philadelphia/New_Seminars.htm. The seminars, as well as all of the writers’ conference, will be available on CD.

Information overload! It’s something I struggle with daily. Sometimes in the midst of the bombardment of emails I want to scream, “I don’t care. Just leave me alone!” And yet the fact is that I DO care, and I think it is vitally important to be informed about the things that really matter.

While many emails are deleted because the information they provide is not on my “need to know” list, the emails I receive daily from ASSIST News are not among them. Dan Wooding and his team of journalists provide critical information about the needs of our brothers and sisters around the world who are facing persecution for their faith in Jesus Christ. Other articles address news that impacts us as Christians – news that more than likely will not be reported elsewhere.

See below to learn how you can receive a free subscription to the important service that ASSIST News provides. And please prayerfully consider coming to the August 10-13 Greater Philadelphia Christian Writers Conference where Dan will keynote Friday evening. In addition, he will lead a special two-hour session on Saturday, August 13, to address the needs of the estimated 100 million Christians worldwide who suffer interrogation, arrest, and even death for their faith in Christ, with millions more facing discrimination and alienation.

Father, You know how overwhelmed we get with the information that confronts us daily. Give us discernment to invest our time in becoming informed about the issues that matter to You and help us to make a difference.

LAKE FOREST, CA (ANS) — International journalist, Dan Wooding, is offering media outlets, Christian leaders, and anyone else who wants “to keep up with world news and how it affects Christians,” a free subscription to the ASSIST News Service (ANS).

Wooding, 70, began this unique service, that carries unique news about the persecution of Christians around the world, missions, features on inspiring people and popular culture, some 20 years ago. It is based in Lake Forest, California.

With a team of talented writers stationed in some of the world’s hot-spots including India, Pakistan and Egypt, ANS brings up-to-date news stories right into people’s in-boxes.

Many of these stories are carried widely by the Christian media and have also been picked up by secular media including USA Today, the Washington Times, The Minneapolis Tribune-Star, the New York Post, Paul Harvey, WorldNet Daily, The Fox News Channel and the Los Angeles Times.

Wooding has been a journalist now since 1968 and has worked for two of the UK’s top-selling newspapers, been an interviewer for the BBC in London, and now also has a weekly radio show in America called Front Page Radio and a monthly Internet TV show called His Channel live.

What makes Wooding and his team of writers unusual is the fact that none of them get a salary for their media ministry – they each raise their own support and look upon themselves as “Media Missionaries.”

Rick Warren, senior pastor of Saddleback Church, Lake Forest, California, one of America’s largest churches, and author of “The Purpose Driven Life,” has provided an endorsement for Dan Wooding’s autobiography, “From Tabloid to Truth,” which is one of his 44 books. Warren said, “Dan Wooding has lived one of the most amazing and exciting lives you could ever imagine.”

If you would like a free subscription, just send Wooding an e-mail at assistnews@aol.com and give your name and e-mail address and he will add you to the list. Also, please feel free to tell your friends and colleagues about this free offer.

However, please bear in mind that this is a news service, so you will be receiving several stories each day, many of which you will not read anywhere else.

The website for ANS is www.assistnews.net and, by the way, your e-mail address will not be shared with anyone else and is only used to send you these ANS stories.
